THE FRAME: SCI-ARC VERTICAL

An addition to the world health orginazation headquarters in Geneva Switzerland. This project utilizes the qualities of the frame, as it exists in photography and painting, in order to create architecture.
From the point on the site where transition occurs from the upper to lower level, the texture appears flat. This effect orients the viewer and signifies the location as one of primary importance.
The textures simultaneaously delineates and associate the different parts of the buidling: border, exterior, interior. Monumentality is created by limiting physical and visual access into the building from the site. This effect is continued on the interior by the massive central atrium that runs the length of the project.
Becasue the exterior form and texture are continued inside, the building seems never to stop despite physical limitations.
