HELLO YELLOW: SIMPSONS POP-UP
Our objective was to explore the depths of our collective Simpsons subconscious and elicit a guest experience that’s more like remembering than looking. We reinterpreted The Simpsons’ world as a deconstructed version of the series in order to underscore the guest’s implicit understanding and subliminal knowledge of its core elements. Literal depictions of characters and locations are be treated as a fourth wall that’s not broken without clear intent.
The pop-up is comprised of four vignettes: Bart’s Bedroom, Moe’s Tavern, the Kwik-E-Mart, and the TV room —
that serve as moments of dream lucidity, respite from the hallucinatory effect of the surrounding space, and points of contrast for displaying select merchandise. Bold Simpsons colors flow out from a central Squishee kiosk, clearly defining each of these zones and trying them together. As an homage to the revolving couch gag that opens each Simpson’s episode, the 4th vignette is designed as a photo moment with frames on the wall creating space to accommodate products that curated around a changing theme.
